Universitas PGRI Kanjuruhan Malang is a tertiary institution resulting from the merger between the PGRI Malang Teachers’ Training College and the Kanjuruhan Malang Foreign Language College (STIBA), both of which are under the banner of the PGRI Higher Education Institution Supervisory Foundation (YPLP PT-PGRI). This foundation later changed into the Association of Trustees of PGRI Higher Education Institutions (PPLP PT PGRI). Based on Ministerial Decree No. 106/D/072001, the two colleges merged and became Universitas Kanjuruhan Malang. Later, in accordance with Ministerial Decree No. 1073/2020 dated December 8, 2020, Universitas Kanjuruhan Malang officially changed its name to Universitas PGRI Kanjuruhan Malang that continues to prioritize PGRI identity and upholds multiculturalism values ​​in all academic and non-academic activities.

Currently, Unikama is improving and equipping itself with various facilities that can accelerate learning. Internally, the creation of a conducive and professional educational climate is carried out by constructing new buildings for offices and lecture halls, a representative library equipped with a computerized catalog, and providing professional development to lecturers to take Doctoral program. Externally, the improvement is carried out by building work synergies with various institutions, from both private institutions and government agencies. In the future, Universitas PGRI Kanjuruhan Malang strives to become a university that has centers of excellence that can answer the demands and the challenges of the times by equipping the graduates with skills through programs such as e-learning, double professions, and entrepreneurship.
